This species is one of the most successful damselflies, and breeds in an extensive range of habitats, from vegetated creeks, to lakes or ponds. The subspecies found in Maryland, Argia fumipennis violacea, is also often called Violet Dancer (Paulson, 2011). This common species surely occurs statewide.
