Introduced to the U.S. in 1896 as a means of pest control. Has been recorded in all Maryland counties (K. Anderson).
In adults, the vertically lined faced and a yellow spot between the raptorial arms are helpful for discriminating from our region's native Carolina Mantis. Very similar Narrow-winged Mantis has an orange spot between raptorial arms. Egg case (oothecae) shape is also helpful in identifying species. Unidentified Tenodera should be posted as Chinese/Narrow-winged Mantis.
