Northern Two-lined Salamander (Eurycea bislineata) is a common and familiar yellowish salamander found throughout Maryland. This small, slender species can be located by checking carefully under rocks or other debris along streams or at seeps or springs. This species breeds in late winter or early spring. Adults may sometimes be observed guarding clusters of white pea-sized eggs under stones in spring. The larvae are fully aquatic, and have external gills (Conant & Collins, 1998; Bishop, 1943).
