Swamp Spreadwing (Lestes vigilax) is a large, elongate spreadwing, preferring vegetated, wooded wetlands or ponds for habitat, frequently including ones with bushes growing in shallow water. Can also occur in bogs or slow streams. It often forages in shade, which is appropriate, considering its preferred habitat (Paulson, 2011). The species is widespread across Maryland, but apparently uncommon (Richard Orr's Dragonflies and Damselflies of Maryland and the District of Columbia).
