Ide Leuciscus idus (Linnaeus, 1758)Non-native
Kingdom Animalia   >   Phylum Chordata   >   Class Actinopterygii   >   Order Cypriniformes   >   Family Cyprinidae   >   Genus Leuciscus

Status:

A northern European species that appears to have been intentionally or accidentally released in the late 1800s. Maryland DNR Natural Heritage Program considered this species to be scattered throughout the state as recently as 1984. Locations we've found noted in literature include the Monocacy River ("escaped from commercial ponds at Thurmont") and the Potomac River. Regarding the latter, USGS summarizes as follows "Musick (1972) doubted that this species still survived there, and both Jenkins and Burkhead (1994) and Starnes et al. (2011) also concluded that there was no evidence indicating the ide persists in the Potomac drainage."

There is 1 record in the project database.
