Sweetflag Acorus calamus (Rafinesque) RafinesqueNon-native    Synonyms: Acorus americanus, European Sweetflag.
Kingdom Plantae   >   Division Tracheophyta   >   Class Magnoliopsida   >   Order Acorales   >   Family Acoraceae   >   Genus Acorus

Status:

Most floristic treatments recognize European Sweetflag (Acorus calamus) and American Sweetflag (Acorus americanus) as distinct species (e.g., Weakley 2020, Flora of the Southeastern US; Acorus in Flora of North America). However, Abbott (2016, Acoraceae in The New Manual of Vascular Plants of Northeastern United States and Adjacent Canada) is of the opinion that the species is comprised of entities of different chromosome number (ploidy) that cannot be reliably distinguished from one another. Further research may be required to determine the boundaries of this lineage.

There are 66 records in the project database.
