Status

The July flight period is much earlier than the September-October flights of the related, described species False Hemlock Looper Moth and Boreal Pine Looper Moth.

From Glaser et al. and Moths of Maryland: Common. Most specimens collected on the lower Eastern Shore. Baltimore, Dorchester, Somerset, Talbot and Worcester Counties. June 8th to July 28th.

Description

Also from Glaser et al.: Wing span is 26 to 28 mm, much smaller than N. pellucidaria. The late Douglas Ferguson thought that this wasn't even the correct species [sic]. He was going to revise the genus but never got to it. Reared from Pinus taeda.
