This flea is difficult to collect for two reasons. Populations of its host, Allegheny Woodrat, are declining, and the flea is primarily found in the woodrat nest. These nests are often in rock crevices and are difficult to sample. Eckerlin (2011) noted it as a first state record for Maryland.
