Status The Atlantis Fritillary (Speyeria atlantis ) is a widespread northern species, near the southern limit of its range at higher elevations of the Appalachians. Atlantis Fritillary is considered threatened in Maryland and has a state ranking of S1, meaning that there are fiver or fewer populations in the state. All populations of Atlantis Fritillary in Maryland are restricted to Garrett County.
Description Atlantis Fritillary is very similar to Aphrodite Fritillary . The best way to distinguish between the two species is by eye color. Atlantis Fritillary has blue-gray eyes and Aphrodite Fritillary has yellow-green eyes. Both Atlantis and Aphrodite Fritillary are much smaller than the larger Great Spangled Fritillary .
Relationships Host plants are species in the family Violaceae including Canada Violet .
