Status
Tetracha carolina is a large species of nocturnal tiger beetle. Its range is primarily south of Maryland, though it is recorded from Worcester, Talbot, and St. Mary's Counties. This species flies well, and is known to disperse outside of its range. It appears to prefer habitats near water, like river floodplains, where they may be abundant. They are also known from many other habitats, including coastal marshes, mudflats, agricultural fields, and even suburban developments.
Description
T. carolina can be distinguished from the larger T. virginica, which ranges widely in Maryland, by noting the bright cream-colored apical lunules at the ends of the elytra, which virginica lacks.
