Callitriche palustris, the vernal water-starwort,[3] narrow-fruited water-starwort,[4] or spiny water starwort, is a species of aquatic plants. It is the type species of its genus.
It is native to temperate and subtropical North America and Eurasia, as well as Sumatra and Borneo.[2]
Subspecies and varieties
[edit]Six subspecies and varieties are accepted.[2]
- Callitriche palustris var. elegans (Petrov) Y.L.Chang (synonyms C. elegans Petrov, C. verna var. elegans (Petrov) Kitag., & C. verna subsp. elegans (Petrov) Kom. & Aliss.) – southeastern and northeastern China, Japan, Sakhalin, and East European Russia[5]
- Callitriche palustris var. megalata Lansdown – Russian Far East (Primorye)
- Callitriche palustris var. oryzetorum (Petrov) Lansdown (synonym C. oryzetorum Petrov) – southern China, Taiwan, Japan, and western Himalayas[6]
- Callitriche palustris subsp. palustris (synonyms Elatine alata Rostk. & Schmidt, C. alpina Schur, C. angustifolia Hoppe, C. aquatica Huds., C. bifida (L.) Morong, C. cespitosa Schultz, C. cuneifolia A.Braun ex Hegelm., C. euverna Syme, C. fallax Petrov, C. fissa Lej., C. intermedia Hoppe, C. latifolia Gilib. C. obtusangula subsp. alpina (Schur) Nyman, C. pallens Goldb., C. stellata Hoppe, C. stenocarpa Hegelm., C. tenuifolia Thuill. ex Pers., C. verna L., C. vernalis W.D.J.Koch, C. vernalis Kütz., Stellaria bifida (L.)
