Gonatozygon monotaenium is a unicellular (sometimes forming short filaments) green alga. The cells are many times longer than broad with truncate apices. The cell surface is covered in short spines or granules, randomly arranged. The plastid (chloroplast) is an axial ribbon with many pyrenoids.
Where To Find
Gonatozygon monotaenium is an infrequent component of most oligotrophic and mesotrophic lakes, ponds and wetlands (i.e., habitats with low to moderate nutrients, pH and conductivity).
