Status
River Herring is a term that encompasses two similar looking native species, Alewife (Alosa pseudoharengus) and Blueback Herring (Alosa aestivalis). They are very similar in appearance, overlap throughout Maryland, and run the same time. They have often been lumped together and managed as such.
