Description

The cells of Didymoprium grevillei are roughly oval in outline and form filaments of a few cells to many hundreds of cells. Filaments can be seen with the unaided eye but microscopic identification is always necessary. It is most similar to Hyalotheca species but differs in the cell shape.

Where To Find

You can find Didymoprium grevillei in lentic habitats throughout Maryland (lakes, ponds, wetlands and ditches). Under certain circumstances, it can form macroscopic mats.
