Description

"Stenoptilodes taprobanes and S. brevipennis are very similar species that cannot reliably be identified by photographs. They require dissection and examination of genitalia (or DNA analysis) in order to be positively identified" (Roger Downer/BAMONA).

"Males you really have to dissect. Females you can look for lateral scale tufts near the genital opening (ventral) to distinguish brevipennis from taprobanes" (Debbie Matthews via BugGuide).
