Status

Found solitary or (more often) in clusters on decaying hardwoods.

Description

Fruiting body: Reddish-brown, brown, black (in age); may be shiny; often a dimpled surface; spherical or irregular; mostly stalkless, but occasionally with a short stalk; vertically cut fruiting body reveals concentric rings. (J. Solem, pers. comm.)
