Status

This species was provided in the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center (SERC) ant checklist, but not included in our checklist due to this feedback from Tim Foard: "The Hypoponera sp. I question. opacier is the widespread coastal plains species, uncommon to rare, but do occur in MD. opaciceps has a more restrictive southern range. If this ant is present in MD, the most likely areas are the inland dune habitats on the Eastern shore or on Assateague Island. Intensive surveys in these areas by Jen Frye (dunes) and myself (Assateague ls.) failed to produce H. opaciceps."
