May be found solitary or in overlapping clusters on the ground in hardwood forests.

Description

Fruiting body: Color ranges from yellow-brown to gray with radiating fibers, cup/vase-shaped; flesh thick, tough with unpleasant odor. Pores: Dirty white to gray; wrinkled with fine warts. Stalk: White to gray, may have hairs. (J. Solem, pers. comm.)
