A presumed Broad Gill (<em>Megacollybia rodmanii</em>) in New Germany SP, Garrett Co., Maryland (6/1/2013). Identified by Lance Biechele. Notes from Lance: 'It appears to be <em>Megacollybia platyphylla</em>, although recent DNA studies have suggested that it probably is not the same mushroom as the one found in Europe, so the name has been changed to <em>M. rodmani</em>. This should be a large, white-gilled mushroom, always growing on/in dead hardwood.' (Photo ID: 6117 - Psn: 20)

Found solitary or in groups on or near decaying hardwoods.

Description

Cap: Brownish-gray with darker disc, streaked with dark radial fibrils when young; dry, smooth, convex to nearly flat in age. Gills: White/grayish, margin wavy, subdistant, very broad. Stalk: White, dry, does not detach easily from cap, equal or tapers down, hollow (J. Solem, pers. comm).
