Description
This is one of the smallest known slime mold species and constitutes the type for the order Echinosteliales. The sporangial size ranges from 300-500 microns in height and the white (or rarely pinkish) peridium is quite evanescent disappearing as the spores ripen. (L. Biechele, pers. comm.)

Echinostelium minutum collected in Somerset Co., Maryland and photographed at 40x magnification via microscope (11/18/2014). Growth was found on old milkweed pods.
