Tetracha virginica is the largest species of tiger beetle found in Maryland. This flightless species occurs across a broad range of habitats, usually grassy with open patches of ground, and frequently near water. It has also been found breeding in agricultural fields. This species is primarily nocturnal, or active on overcast days, and is attracted to lights at night (Pearson et al., 2015)(Knisley & Schultz, 1997).
