Found on the ground in singles or groups.
Pear- or turban-shaped, may be stalked; white spines break off leaving a smooth exterior in age; usually one central pore (which may be ragged). Young spore mass is white, then olive, when mature brown and powdery. (J. Solem, pers. comm.)
