Dusky Dancer (Argia translata) has an extremely extensive range, extending to South America. In this region, it generally occurs along rivers, including large ones, and often with rocky substrates or banks. The dark coloration and blue eyes of the mature male are distinctive (Paulson, 2011). This species is often seen ovipositing in tandem, probably as a deterrent for competing males. In Maryland, this species varies from uncommon to locally abundant (Richard Orr's Dragonflies and Damselflies of Maryland and District of Columbia).
