Grows throughout most of North America. Found along roadsides and in fields, thickets, and open woods.
Leaves clasping. Flowers have a large number of rays. The fruits (achenes) have small tufts of hair, which aid their dispersal by wind (J. Hill/MNPS).
Flowers attract a variety of insects.
