Loggerhead Sea Turtle (Caretta caretta) occurs uncommonly in nearshore and offshore oceanic waters, and juveniles are sometimes sighted in the Chesapeake or coastal bays of Worcester Co. Additionally, Loggerheads have been found nesting occasionally on Maryland beaches in coastal Worcester County. This federally threatened species is ranked as S1 (highly state rare) in Maryland, and is categorized as state-threatened. Please report any nesting attempts to Maryland DNR and do not disturb them (Maryland DNR site).
