Description

Trachelomonas is a microscopic organism. Euglenoids are photosynthetic with green plastids but are unrelated to land plants and other green algae. Trachelomonas species have a fixed 'shell' called a lorica with an opening (aperture) where the flagellum emerges. The lorica is generally spherical to cylindrical and may be smooth or ornamented with pores, granules, ridges or spines, depending on the species.
