Description
Note that our Brood X comprises three very similar species. Identification is best confirmed via photos of the underside of the abdomen. We're happy to archive unidentified Periodical Cicada species on this page. There is excellent info at the Cicada Mania web site.

Birds: Mallard, Common Merganser, Mississippi Kite, Red-shouldered Hawk, Barred Owl, Red-headed Woodpecker, Red-bellied Woodpecker, Great Crested Flycatcher, Fish Crow, White-breasted Nuthatch, Carolina Wren, Eastern Bluebird, Gray-cheeked Thrush, Swainson's Thrush, American Robin, Gray Catbird, Northern Mockingbird, European Starling, Cedar Waxwing, Chipping Sparrow, Song Sparrow, Northern Cardinal, Blue Grosbeak, Bobolink, Common Grackle, House Sparrow.
Mammals: Human, Eastern Gray Squirrel, Eastern Chipmunk, Domestic Dog, House Cat.
Reptiles and Amphibians: Eastern Box Turtle.
Invertebrates: Stink bugs (including Florida Predatory Stink Bugs), Flies (Diptera, including Laphria bee-mimic robber flies), beetles (including Six-spotted Tiger Beetle and Eastern Boxelder Beetle), dragonflies (including Gray Petaltail and Swamp Darner), wasps (genus Polistes, genus Vespula), ants (various species, including Crematogaster), harvestmen, spiders (Nursery Web Spider, jumping spiders including Bold Jumper, genus Dolomedes, genus Xysticus), Leopard Slug and other slugs.
Frequent host to the fungal pathogen Massospora cicadina (be sure to read about this one).
