This species is a spring ephemeral of rich floodplain forests and mesic cove and slope forests along major streams and rivers (J. Hill/MNPS).
Look for Sessile Trillium in the C&O Canal National Historical Park floodplain forests and rich woods from D.C. well upstream. There are also good stands of it in rich, calcareous Shell-Marl Ravine Forest at Chapman State Park (Chapman Forest North) in Charles Co. (J. Hill/MNPS)
Flowers are pollinated by flies, which are attracted by the flower's color and odor of carrion (J. Hill/MNPS).
