Very popular with pollinators. This plant is very attractive to long-tongued bees, which have to reach way down to get nectar and pollen. They also have hooked hairs on the tips of their tongues to wrangle the pollen out. There are three bees that only feed their young pollen from this plant: Melissodes apicata, Florilegus condignus (most common and found at least throughout the western shore tidal systems), and Dufourea novaeanglia (no specimens in about 100 years; recorded from the DC area long ago). There are 517 records in the project database.
