Found throughout Maryland but most common on the coastal plain.
Easily distinguished from other low shrubby heaths by having resinous dots only on the underside of the leaf.
Host plant to various moth species including Waxmyrtle Wave Moth, Spongy Moth, Drexel's Datana Moth, Cecropia Moth, and Huckleberry Sphinx (Database of the World's Lepidopteran Hostplants).
