Found solitary or in groups on decaying conifers.
Brownish-red to mahogany near center or overall; yellow-orange outward; light near margin. Surface appears lacquered, concentrically zoned, with shallow furrows. Fan or kidney-shaped. Pores: White or cream, brown in age or when bruised. Stalk: Typically lateral, may be absent or off-center, brown/red, shiny. Similar-appearing G. lucidum grows on rotting hardwoods (J. Solem, pers. comm.).
