Found in overlapping clusters, usually on hardwood trees, logs, and stumps.
Cap: varies from white to dark brown, smooth, dry, slightly convex to shell-shaped, margin inrolled; flesh white, firm. Gills: White to cream, decurrent, usually close. Stalk: Off-center when present. (J. Solem, pers. comm.)
