Kingdom Animalia   >   Phylum Chordata   >   Class Aves   >   Order Passeriformes   >   Family Motacillidae   >   Genus Anthus

Status:

The American Pipit is an open country species that winters in Maryland. They nest in northern Canada, Alaska, and locally at higher elevations in the western U.S. Look for this species in open areas such as fields and beaches - the same sorts of places that attract Horned Larks, Snow Buntings, and longspurs.

Description:

Learning their distinctive flight call can increase your pipit observations dramatically, as flyovers are common in season.

There are 287 records in the project database.
