North America's only native lark is widespread in an impressive variety of open habitats, but - like other open country species - has been in steep decline. It is found in open country in Maryland both as a breeding species and a wintering species. Snowy days tend to concentrate this species into roadside flocks, which may include uncommon species such as Snow Bunting and Lapland Longspur.
Did you know the Horned Lark is also found in South America, Europe, Africa, and Asia? It is found in the Andes, on the Tibetan Plateau, and in an open field near you.
There are 381 records in the project database.
