A Northern Pipefish in Anne Arundel Co., Maryland (8/12/2019). Notice the number of trunk rings (body segments forward of the anus) covered by the dorsal fin. The characteristic is helpful in delimiting the three pipefishes seen in Chesapeake Bay.
