State champion Cherrybark Oak in Charles Co., Maryland. This old tree, more than 16 feet in circumference at breast height, is growing in Coastal Plain Dry Calcareous Forest, at the edge of an ancient, Pleistocene river terrace that is 100 feet high and was once a gravelly river bottom.
