Proctacanthus hinei is a large, elongate robber fly which occurs widely in extensive sandy areas across much of the continent. It is very similar to P. rufus, and was formerly confused with that species (Bromley, 1928). Both are large, with orange abdomens, and reddish-brown thoraces and legs.
