Laphria ithypyga McAtee, 1919
Kingdom Animalia   >   Phylum Arthropoda   >   Class Insecta   >   Order Diptera   >   Family Asilidae   >   Genus Laphria

Status:

This species and Laphria index are essentially identical in appearance, aside from terminal appendages. Males are fairly easily distinguished with clear photos, but females are not separable in the field. Seems to be much less abundant or widespread than index. Appears loosely associated with well-drained sandy soils, often with substantial moss cover. Generally drier habitats, e.g. sandy openings in oak forest (Baker & Fischer 1975).
