Found in overlapping clusters on dead hardwood.
Fruiting body: White to gray-brown; hairy to velvety; concentric rings (most obvious when young); kidney to fan-shaped; wavy margin; white flesh separated from cap by thin dark layer; infertile surface frequently green with algae. Pores: White to gray; highly variable in shape from round to maze or slot-like (in age). (J. Solem, pers. comm.)
