Found in groups on wood chips, manured soil, and dung.

Description:

Fruiting body: Interior shiny gray to blue-black, smooth, no vertical lines; Exterior red-brown, shaggy when young, smooth in age. Peridioles: Gray to black; each attached by a coiled cord. (J. Solem, pers. comm.)
