Brant Branta bernicla (Linnaeus, 1758)  Synonyms: ATBR, Atlantic Brant.

Status:

Common October to May along the coast and coastal bays of Worcester County, but rare across the rest of the state. Formerly wintered in large numbers in the Chesapeake Bay into the 1960s. One accepted record of Black Brant from Ocean City in 2004.

Where to find:

Easily found on Sinepuxent Bay in winter. Scan from vantage points around Ocean City and Assateague Island. Often present at the Ocean City Inlet and near Skimmer Island.
