Occurs in "[b]ogs, acid swamps, barrens, woodlands from Kansas to southeastern Ohio and New Jersey south to Florida and Texas" (Wagner, 2005)
Host plants include Deerberry (Database of the World's Lepidopteran Hostplants), as well as other members of the Heath Family, such as azalea, fetterbush, leatherleaf, maleberry, and staggerbush, but rarely if ever blueberry (Wagner, 2005).
