River Chub Nocomis micropogon (Cope, 1865)  

Status:

Native species widespread on the western shore. Compare with the newly arrived, non-native Bluehead Chub, especially in Potomac River tributaries.

Description:

Pattern of male's breeding tubercles is diagnostic to rule out Bluehead Chub.
