Velvet-striped Grasshopper Eritettix simplex (Scudder, 1869)
Kingdom Animalia   >   Phylum Arthropoda   >   Class Insecta   >   Order Orthoptera   >   Family Acrididae   >   Genus Eritettix

Seems to inhabit prairie remnants and other types of native grasslands in its eastern range. Not commonly seen since it overwinters as small nymphs, matures early in spring, and is essentially gone by midsummer. (B. Woo, pers. comm.)
