The Great Southern White (Ascia monuste) occurs in Maryland only as a rare vagrant in the coastal plain. There are records from Calvert Co., on the western shore, and from Somerset and Dorcester Counties, on the eastern shore. Records of this large southern species range from July to October. In the United States, this species breeds from Georgia and Florida, along the Gulf Coast into Texas, but is frequently sighted north of this range in the southeast (Butterflies of Maryland: A Biological Summary and Checklist by Lynn Davidson & Richard Smith; Kaufman Guide to Butterflies of North America).
There are 3 records in the project database.
