Widespread in the central and eastern U.S. and found throughout Maryland. It is one of our earliest flying bees in the spring, but also continues through late fall in open habitats like fields and gardens. It nests under bark and mated females will over-winter there.
Small (~8mm) and variably colored overall from bright green to bronze. Diagnostic features include facial details and wing pattern. Nests are categorized as rotten logs, and social behavior is categorized as solitary to communal (Selfridge et al., 2017).
