The distribution of the woody, yellow-flowered Bushy St. John's Wort, Hypericum densiflorum, in the Great Falls area was puzzling as of 1980. According to Reed, et al. (1980), it was "common in open areas on the bedrock terrace and on rocky islands downstream to Chain Bridge. It does not grow elsewhere in the local area but is common in the Appalachian Mountains south to North Carolina." There are no MBP records of Bushy St. Johnswort in the Great Falls, Maryland, area, whether due to lack of searching or to extirpation.
