Exobasidium sp. Exobasidium sp.    Synonyms: Azalea Leaf Fungus, Cylindrosporium deformans, Exobasidium vaccinii (misapplied), Exobasidium vaccinii var. vaccinii (misapplied).
Kingdom Fungi   >   Phylum Basidiomycota   >   Class Exobasidiomycetes   >   Order Exobasidiales   >   Family Exobasidiaceae   >   Genus Exobasidium

Status:

Some studies have suggested that species of Exobasidium are host-specific and limited to closely-related host species. One of the most widely reported Exobasidium species in Maryland is Exobasidium vaccinii. However, the current hypothesis is that Exobasidium vaccinii may only occur on Vaccinium vitis-idaea (GallFormers.org) which is not known from Maryland. It is not yet clear which species of Exobasidium occur in Maryland.

Exobasidium on Pinxter Azalea has been referred to Exobasidium azaleae.

Exobasidium oxycocci which occurs on Vaccinium oxycoccus and closely-related species may also occur in Maryland.

There are 58 records in the project database.
