Status:

Clam shrimp species described by N. T. Mattox in 1953 based on USNM specimens from Maryland (Mattox, 1953).

Description:

See species description in Mattox, 1953 and USNM specimens.

Where to find:

USNM specimens collected from temporary pools on Bear Island in the Potomac River, Montgomery Co. with average temperatures of 80F and a pH of 6.2. "In the four collections there are 102 females and 17 males, again indicating the unequal ratio of the sexes typical of the genus" (Mattox, 1953).

Look for clam shrimp in summer and fall in very transient water bodies, occasionally in rain-filled puddles and even tire ruts (B. Norden, pers. comm.).
