Scaphidium quadriguttatum Say, 1823
Kingdom Animalia   >   Phylum Arthropoda   >   Class Insecta   >   Order Coleoptera   >   Family Staphylinidae   >   Genus Scaphidium

Status:

Description:

There are two forms of Scaphidium quadriguttatum: one in which the elytra have two pairs of orange, peanut-shaped marks on the elytra, and a second which is unmarked, essentially all black. This latter form is treated as S. piceum by some authors. However S. piceum is a “nomen nudum”, as there is no literature published to date yet which raises this form to full species. (Kyle Schnepp, Florida State Collection of Arthropods, pers. comm.).

There are 3 records in the project database.
